Tips and tricks

Power user tips for getting the most out of Mindvas.

Quick actions

  • Alt+click a connection pointinsert a node between parent and child

  • Alt+click a node — select the entire tree

  • Ctrl+click a node — zoom to fit the branch

  • Double-click a group name in the outline — rename it inline

  • Alt+drag a node — move only that node without its children

Organizing with groups

  • Use canvas groups to organize related trees into forests

  • Right-click a group > Layout forest to auto-arrange trees in a grid

  • Drag trees between groups in the Map outline panel

  • Select multiple ungrouped roots (Ctrl+click) then right-click > Create group

Node referencing workflow

  1. Right-click a key concept node > Copy node link

  2. Paste into a summary note or another canvas

  3. Click the link anytime to jump back to that node

This creates a web of navigable references across your vault. See Node referencing for details.

Splitting nodes

When a node has too much text, select part of it and run Add child node. The selected text moves to the new child, keeping the parent concise.

Detaching branches

Select a child node and run Detach subtree from the command palette. The branch becomes an independent tree. See Subtree operations.

Balanced layouts

Select a root node with many children and run Toggle balanced layout to distribute children evenly on both sides. Run it again to collapse back to one side. See Branch management.

Forest layout tuning

Forest layout arranges trees in a square-ish grid. Trees are sorted in reading order (top-to-bottom, left-to-right) so the grid preserves your manual arrangement. Inter-tree spacing is wider than intra-tree spacing for clear visual separation.
